This is what it is looking like nowadays. It’s ain’t pretty, but it’s healing. You might not think so, but it’s finally starting to look like a knee to me–slightly. I can start to see my kneecap and my thigh muscles when I flex them–it’s amazing how your muscles can disappear so quickly. I still use Mederma 3x a day on the scars. My big concern now is two 10-minute daily massages to break up scar tissue. And since it’s summer, most of you have pointing out the importance of sunscreen on the scars–thank you

I’m really glad you posted those pics! Looks like my legs… LOL. It’s amazing how quickly the muscles disappear and how strange the knee looks compared to the other. Just 20 days since my surgery. I wasn’t prepared for the way my knee looked right after the bandages came off. Much better now that I can see a knee!
Hi
I’m only 15 and needing an ACL reconstruction to get back into my chosen sports.
I first tore my MCL 5 months ago but after physio on that I was told I could go back and play. That first game back I tore my ACL and lateral meniscus, and after an arthroscopy to fix my meniscus now need an ACL reco.
This blog has really helped me prepare for what is to come with scars and rehab, so thanks!
I hope you recover well
Hi when does the thigh get back to normal size
John, it’s been 6 months since my surgery. My surgery leg is almost the same size as my non-affected leg now. It’s been a long haul. But well worth the PT time. If I don’t do PT for a day, I can really feel it in my knee. It NEEDS it. Doc says 9 months to a year for completed healing. Everyone is a little different, but that’s a general rule of thumb, at least from his experience of surgery on university FB players.
