No worries on posting twice! If anything is hurting you, stop. It's better to be cautious now, then push it because you'll be better off in the long run. You have to be patient with the knee. I know it really, really sucks. I would say the pain is normal, but if it's consistent, in that it happens after you do the same activity, then ask your therapist and they can help pinpoint it.

Age can factor into recovery, but so can many other things. It depends on what kind of surgery you have, what kind of graft you use and if you had other surgeries/repairs in the process. I didn't know my meniscus was torn until the doctor repaired my ACL and found it. Everyone is different. The textbook recovery time is 6-8 months. Just make sure you're ready to go back or else you can run the risk of a retear, other injuries due to weakness and premature arthritis. Welcome to the club! It's no fun, but good luck to you.

hey i tore my acl a few weeks back playing indoor soccer.. my surgery is march and im kinda freaking out not being able to go out and play or get on the hill and snowboard. My doc told me when i was in that the recovery to full activity is about six months and after reading.. (has helped) it sounds like it has taken some of you longer than that. Im 21 i dont know if age really affects this kind of recovery. Cant wait to get this surgery and recovery done

Ah I know where your coming from I love to snowboard, probably the only reason why I look forward to the winter every year but I cant go this year because of surgery. but I actually have a quick question about the recovery process. Im 19 years old and I had surgery September 3rd of 2009 using a hamstring graft. so i'm coming up 5 months post op and im expreriencing pain in my knee (id rate it 4 out of 10) whenever I squat or lunge or walk around campus too much at the end of the day. is this pain typical for someone at 5 months post op or is it possible i did something to it when working it out at the gym? thank you for reading this!

Hello!
I know where your coming from with the skiing season! I havent been able to go snowboarding this year because of ACL surgery as well. but anyways I just had a quick question about the recovery process. I had surgery on September 3rd 2009 so I guess you would say im coming up on 5 months post op. well ive been experiencing pain in my knee whenever i would lunge or squat or if i have been walking around campus all day and im not sure if thats because its just typical for someone at my point of recovery or if i did something to it? my physical therapist told me not to do leg extensions until about 5 months post op but I started doing light one legged extentions with about 10lbs or so at the gym at 3 months post op, and the only other thing i can think of that may have done something might of been i put on too much weight when i first started squatting at the gym again. What do you think? thank you for reading this!

Yeah, Mireille!

It's so, so nice to hear I'm not the only one warming the bench! (This is my second ski season of zero powder action, as well.) I love your point about being able to ski for a lifetime. I will keep that in the front of my mind for extra encouragement. Thank you!!

Sasha-
Happy Anniversary to you, too! I've been wondering a lot lately about the snowboarding from skiing switch. I have heard many say that snowboarding is way easier on the knees, but I've heard some people say it doesn't matter. I will further investigate and get back to you well before you decide to make the switch.

I am going to wait another season (will have missed 2). People still ski into their 70s (that's going to be me!) so I don't feel rushed.

Good luck!
