As if the actual surgery and getting-back-to-normal process wasn’t bad enough …
I’ve patiently rehabbed. OK, sometimes I painfully rehabbed to push myself through doing the elementary-level exercises on the sheets my PT gave me. For an athlete who underwent ACL surgery, I couldn’t wait to get back. I admit, there were times during rehab that I pushed myself further because I thought, “I’m a former athlete. I can handle this.” Maybe I was a little overconfident, but I couldn’t wait to return back to any activity that wasn’t limping and leg lifts.
Now I’ve found myself in a new predicament—shin pains. Could it be patellar tendinitis? Shin Splints? Problems with my screw? I don’t know. All I know is that I am feeling pain for the first time in a long time. What a catch-22 … I’m trying my best to rehab and get back into shape, but I’m working myself so hard that my leg hurts, thus post-poning rehab to getting back to normal. Awesome.
Anyone else experiencing (or experienced) these shin pains? I go to PT tonight, so I will ask her what’s going on and how I can work to heal it.
